Facebook has grown exponentially since its inception in 2004 and continuous to grow every time statistics are reevaluated. It has even grown to surpass Google in U.S. web traffic.

This might mean change is on the way for how the web is run as far as marketing goes.

It used to be that every business looked only to Google for answers on how to shape their web presence. However, considering how big Facebook has become and how different marketing is on the social network, it should not be a surprise to anyone when the web begins to take new shape.

Marketing and web presence for companies grew with the introduction and use of keywords. Google’s method of operation made the web what it is. Keywords and their popularity alone led to website creation; they were the backbone of website content and design while keywords specifically tailored for buying intent brought in the cash.

All that is still present and going strong, but change through Facebook is unavoidable.

Facebook advertising is unlike Google’s: it doesn’t thrive on keywords, but rather on interests and demographics. The “LIKE” button alone has changed the way advertisements are run by qualifying prospects.  This decreases cost per sale and increases return on investment.

With more likes on whatever it is you post, prospective buyers’ desire in that item is aroused. Likes are also a great way to track your prospects’ attention. With more likes, loyalty is created toward your brand and followers begin to defend what they like and offer testimonials to share with peers.

So instead of fighting for the limited amount of profitable keywords and thus scraping for a limited amount of business you can do profitably, consider focusing the attention of your business toward Facebook advertising. The more you are liked the more support you gain from prospects.

Follow Facebook for future success as it is reshaping the web whether you LIKE it or not.
